Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
Do you need to book in for lessons?
Yes. It’s best to book lessons prior to the day to avoid disappointment, (especially in peak season Dec/Jan). Once we have reached our class limit we cannot add extras. We keep our ratios low for safety and so that everyone in the lesson has a chance to spend some quality time with their coach during each lesson. Book upcoming lessons.
How can I book?
You can book directly online through our booking platform or contact us by phone at +64-21-719-773.
What are your lessons prices?
Lesson prices depend on the type of lesson you are wanting. We happily cater for small and large groups sizes as well as individuals. View our price list and range of lessons.
What beach do you surf at?
We surf out of Waipu Cove beach. Waipu Cove on Google Maps. When you arrive look for our large Learn 2 Surf van. If there are poor conditions at Waipu Cove (strong winds, big swells or too much seaweed) we may move to Langs Beach, Ruakaka Beach, or Uretiti Beach. This is a last resort and we will usually contact you a minimum of 2 hours prior to the sessions starting. E.g. by 8am the call is made for the 10am session.
What is your cancellation policy?
A full refund or credit will be issued if you cancel at least 24 hours before your lesson starts. Please read our full cancellation policy for more details.
When can I surf?
Most of our lessons are run to best suit the tide, so lesson times can vary. Contact us or jump on our booking page to see current lesson times.
Do you have fibreglass surfboards available?
We have a range of fibreglass boards which will be available for hire and use during lessons. Hiring fibreglass boards will require a bond. These boards will be a great opportunity to try a range of sizes and styles if you are thinking of buying one and are not sure of what will best suit your abilities and style.
Do you sell surfboards and wetsuits?
Yes. We sell a range of surfboards from fun foam boards to fibreglass boards. We do sell used boards but these depend on availability as these are largely ex surf school stock. Grae is a wealth of knowledge about all things surfboards and is passionate about getting everyone onto the board which is right for them. The only wetsuits we sell are used ex surf school ones. These are limited as we look after our wetsuits well and they do last several seasons. All surf shops will have a range of wetsuits to choose from.
Kids Questions
If my child misses a class can they have a catch up lesson?
Yes. Catch up lessons can provided for missed classes but conditions apply. Please contact us.
What is the youngest age kids can start surfing?
Generally we take kids from 5 yrs old in our group lessons. It is important that younger kids are not scared of the water though as the coach has the responsibility of several kids in the lessons. If you are unsure you can book in to do a private lesson first to build your child’s confidence. Check out our Private Lessons. We also recommend that parents are nearby during the lesson in case the child needs help transporting their board to and from the water. This is always a great chance to take some fun photos!!
Why is the price different for each school term?
Prices change depending on the number of weeks in the term.
Adult Questions
Is there an age limit for participants in surf lessons?
No, you are never too old to learn to surf!! All participants need to let us know prior to the lesson if they have any existing medical conditions. We have surfboards to cater for all abilities and flexibility to ensure you have the most fun in the water possible.
